    The National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA) requires federal agencies to disclose to decision makers and the interested public a clear, accurate description of potential environmental impacts of proposed federal actions and reasonable alternatives to those actions.

    The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has established a process to ensure compliance with the provisions of NEPA through FAA Order 1050.1E, Environmental Impacts: Policies and Procedures.

  • OAPM logoWhat is OAPM?

    Following the recommendations of the Aviation community the FAA created an initiative called the Optimization of the Airspace and Procedures in the Metroplex (OAPM).

    A Metroplex is a geographic area covering several airports, serving major metropolitan areas and a diversity of aviation stakeholders. Congestion, airport activity in close geographical proximity, and other limiting factors such as environmental constraints combine to reduce efficiency in busy Metroplexes.

    03/25/2014 - A Draft Environmental Assessment document for the Northern California Optimization of Airspace and Procedures in the Metroplex (NorCal OAPM) project was issued by the FAA and is available here for review. Public comments will be received up to April 24, 2014.

    03/23/2014  – An Environmental Assessment document for the Atlanta Optimization of Airspace and Procedures in the Metroplex (ATL OAPM) project was issued by the FAA and is available here for review. Public comments will be received up to April 23, 2014

    01/02/2014  – The first DC OAPM procedures will be published in February 2014, ahead of the scheduled implementation that was announced for March 2014.  The procedures to be published in February 2014 are the LINCN SID serving Andrews Air Force Base and the KALLI/LUCYL RNAV STARs serving Richmond International Airport.
